How a call reaches you

A senior sees a final expense ad on TV, streaming TV or social media and dials the number in the ad. Routing picks one agent who is online and holds a life license in the caller's state. The call rings that agent in their web browser, inside the portal. No other agent hears that ring.

If the agent answers, the call is theirs. It is not shared with other agents and it is not resold. If the agent does not answer, the call moves on after a few rings to the next agent who is online and licensed in that state. The agent who missed it is not billed, and the call does not go to their voicemail. Their cell phone never rings either, because calls only ring in the browser.

What a missed call costs you

Nothing comes out of your wallet when you miss a call. You are never billed for ring time, and never billed for a call that is routed to another agent.

You lose the caller instead. A senior who wanted to talk about coverage dialed, your browser rang, and now that senior is talking to another agent. That agent gets the chance to write the policy.

The pricing page compares leads and calls this way: one hundred dials from a lead list give you about ten conversations, and ten calls are ten conversations. That only holds if you answer all ten. Each call you miss is one of those conversations going to someone else.

Why the caller wants a fast answer

The people who call dialed the number themselves. The ad told them a licensed agent in their state would pick up. They expect to talk about burial and final expense coverage, and most expect a price before the call ends.

TV callers are 60 to 80, mostly retired and at home, with time to talk. Social callers saw the ad in their feed and called from their own phone. Either way, they chose that moment to call. When you answer quickly, they get the licensed agent in their state that the ad told them about.

Answering fast never costs more

Connected time starts the moment you answer and ends at hangup. Ring time and hold time before you answer do not count. A call is billed once connected time reaches the buffer, and a call that ends under the buffer costs nothing. Your portal shows the buffer for each campaign before you go online.

So answering on the first ring costs the same as answering on the last one. A call that reaches the buffer is billed at one set price, however fast you pick up and however long you talk. Current prices for TV and social calls are on the pricing page. Calls have no time limit. The charge and the recording show in your portal within a minute of hangup. A call under the buffer still shows as a line in your log, with no charge. The full measurement rules are in the buffer guidelines.

Be ready before you turn calls on

Go through this list each time, before you go online:

  1. Chrome is open on a computer, and your headset with a microphone is plugged in.
  2. You are signed in to the portal. Calls ring there, in the browser. Your cell phone never rings, so don't wait for it.
  3. You have turned on only the states where you hold a life license and can write the business.
  4. Your quoting tools and carrier apps are open, so you can price a policy while the caller is still on the line.
  5. You are somewhere without background noise, and you can stay at the desk for as long as you plan to be online.

Before your first day, you also need to fund your wallet and pass the training. Top-ups have a minimum, and the pricing page shows the current amount. The TV call training is five minutes and a quiz. Most agents take a call the day they are approved, once they pass training and fund the wallet.

Go offline when you step away

Online means calls can ring you. Offline means they cannot. It is one switch, and you can flip it whenever you like between 9am and 8pm ET, Monday to Friday.

Use it every time you leave the desk: lunch, a call on your cell phone, a meeting, a trip to the kitchen. If you stay online and walk away, a call still rings your browser, and the caller waits through a few rings before the call moves to the next agent. When you are offline, routing skips you and looks for another online agent licensed in that state.

Switch back to online when you sit down again with your headset on. Once you are live, you can also set a daily cap from settings.

Pick hours you can cover

Calls come 9am to 8pm ET, Monday to Friday. In other time zones that is 8am to 7pm Central, 7am to 6pm Mountain and 6am to 5pm Pacific. You do not have to be online for all of it.

Turn calls on for the hours you can sit at the desk and answer every ring, and off for the rest. Being online when you can't answer only makes the caller wait through a few rings before the call moves to another agent.

What agency owners can see

On an agency account, each agent has their own login, online switch and call log. The owner dashboard shows calls, billable rate, spend and disputes for each agent, so you can see who is answering and who is not. You can export it any time. The owner also controls which states are on and the daily caps for each agent. Agency accounts are covered in more detail on final expense TV calls for agencies.

When you do answer

Once you pick up, lead the call. The caller already knows three things: the call is about final expense coverage, a licensed agent will pick up, and that agent is in their state. Open with your name, your state and one question, and ask your opening questions before the caller has a chance to ask theirs.

If they ask for a price straight away, tell them an exact price comes in a couple of minutes, then go back to your questions. Take the time the caller needs. A billable call is one price however long it runs.

Don't chase a call you missed

A missed call has already moved to another agent, so there is nothing to win back. Callbacks also have rules. Do not call a consumer back on a different number without their consent on the recorded call. It is up to you to check any callback you place against the national Do Not Call registry. Every call is recorded on both sides, and a consent notice plays before the caller is connected. This isn't legal advice; talk to your compliance team or attorney.

Every guide is listed on final expense calls. Routing is covered step by step in how final expense calls are routed to agents. Once you answer, read the first minute of a final expense inbound call, and for the words callers use, read burial insurance, funeral insurance and final expense. Agency owners can read what a final expense agency owner sees and running final expense calls for a team.

For leads, transfers and calls side by side, read where final expense agents get business. The calls themselves are described on final expense TV calls and final expense social calls, and CTV final expense calls covers the same TV call when the ad runs on a streaming screen. If you have been dialing leads, read final expense inbound calls and pay per call vs pay per lead. If you have been buying transfers, read live transfers vs inbound calls.

Billing rules are on pay-per-call final expense. Before you fund any vendor, go through the questions to ask before buying final expense leads and the guide to what final expense leads and calls cost. When you are ready to take calls, apply for final expense calls.

How do I stop calls while I'm away from the desk?
